Reaching Out to the Community

Our contributions extend beyond software development to support our community and help shape the pool of future science and technology graduates.

Building STEM Skills

There’s an incredible need to fill the pipeline of future science and technology graduates, plus young people are looking for exciting careers and may not even be aware of what tech careers have to offer. Northforge has launched, with Wind River and Fulbright Canada, a computer science STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program for youth.

Aimed at supporting community development in the greater Ottawa area, this initiative introduces eighth- and ninth-graders to science, technology, engineering and math disciplines at an age that’s early enough to take the perquisite classes before graduating from high school.

In this pilot program, launched in August 2017, the Northforge/Wind River/Fulbright initiative funds teacher training at pilot schools in a curriculum specifically designed to connect students with the technology industry. Northforge is also providing volunteer engineers and technology professionals who work with students in practical applications and introduce them to the opportunities and career benefits of computer science. Our volunteers are passionate about software development and it shows when they meet with young students, our future technology experts.

Volleying for Charity

Volleyball during the lunch hour to practice for Ottawa HOPE Volleyball charity events brings together Northforge team members and supports worthy local causes.

We give back to the community through many contributions to local and regional organizations, such as the Sexual Assault Support Centre, Children at Risk, Dress for Success, Shepherds of Good Hope, Ottawa Community Housing, The Waupoos Foundation, Red Cross Flood Relief, Ottawa Catholic School Board, and The Jewish National Fund.

The environment is important to us. Our team participates in various volunteer activities, such as Earth Day clean-up days in our neighborhoods, and making less of an environmental impact with recycle programs at our offices.
